MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. The Russian Red Cross Society (RRCS) provided direct welfare assistance to more than 66,000 resettlers from Ukraine and Donbass in the amount of 185.7 mln rubles ($2.7 mln), Chairman of RRCS Pavel Savchuk said in an interview posted on Sunday on the Izvestiya newspaper’s website.
"Payments were received by more than 66,000 individuals found themselves in Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Belgorod, Rostov, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Tula and Vladimir Regions and in Moscow," Savchuk said.
Such payments can be received by elderly people, pregnant women, families with disabled individuals, single parents and multi-child families with three and more people, he noted. "Payments totaled 185.7 mln rubles," Savchuk added.
According to his data, more than 640,000 individuals applied to RRCS for help and received it from February 18 of the last year, while about 400,000 persons asked for help in 2014-2015, the RRCS chief said. "The majority of refugees and resettlers, about 62%, needed humanitarian aid: personal care and essential items, apparel, food, and many other things," Savchuk added.
