Palestinian envoy does not confirm reports about Israeli army entering Palestinian cities
MOSCOW, January 29. /TASS/. Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal has not confirmed social network reports about the intrusion of the Israeli army into Palestinian cities. "So far, their army has not [entered Palestinian cities]," he told TASS on Sunday, commenting on the Israeli government’s decision following recent developments in East Jerusalem. The Arab mass media reported earlier that Israel had deployed its army to Palestinian cities. Palestinian top diplomat to call Lavrov over situation with Israel Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki plans to call his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, later on Sunday over the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal told TASS. "Today, our foreign minister plans to call Lavrov on this situation. Let us wait and see what happens next. The situation is very difficult," he said. The Israeli army and police conducted an anti-terrorist raid in the West Bank city of Jenin on January 26. According to the Al Mayadeen television channel, its was the most large-scale operation in recent years. The Palestinian health ministry said that 11 Arabs had been killed and some 20 had received injuries in clashes in Jenin On January 27, seven people were killed and three more were wounded in a terror attack at a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood of East Jerusalem. Another shooting incident occurred at the City of David archaeological site, also in East Jerusalem, on the following day. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a cabinet meeting on security matters on Saturday evening, which decided to simplify procedures for issuing gun licenses, to take measures to fortify Jewish settlements, reinforce the army and police, to expand the practice of detentions and operations for seizing illegal weapons, etc.
