EU wrong again in its forecasts about effectiveness of anti Russian sanctions

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. The European Union made another mistake in its forecasts about the effectiveness of sanctions by introducing the 10th package of anti Russian sanctions, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a comment, distributed on Tuesday. The European Union, which remains captive to its arrogant notions about Russia, was wrong in all forecasts about the consequences of suffocating sanctions. This will also be the case this time. Each subsequent package [of sanctions] more and more clearly shows one thing anti Russian restrictions are a tool that does not work, the diplomat said. The diplomat noted that restrictions on trade with Russia will only increase the EU s dependence on direct competitors and kill the economic sovereignty of the community. It’s hard to disagree with the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, who said on February 15, 2023 in the European Parliament that sanctions are a slow acting but certain poison. But, first of all, they kill the economic sovereignty of the European Union. The EU can impose any number of restrictions on trade with Russia this will only increase its dependence on direct competitors, Zakharova said. On February 25, the European Union introduced the 10th package of sanctions against Russia; the restrictions affected 87 individuals and 34 legal entities. The sanctions package obliges European banks to inform their national regulators and the European Commission about the amount of blocked Russian funds on their balance sheets. The European Commission intends to carry out, according to European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, an inventory of frozen assets, which the EU intends to confiscate and use to restore Ukraine, as soon as the proper legislation is designed and adopted for this purpose. Brussels is intensively working on its development. TAGS
