Un accorato e forte appello perché si ponga immediatamente fine all’embargo in Siria che rende difficile perfino far arrivare aiuti in questo terribile momento”. Lo rivolge il Centro internazionale del Movimento Politico per l’Unità, espressione del Movimento dei Focolari, alla comunità internazionale, ai governi e all’Unione Europea. “Si sospenda temporaneamente almeno l’embargo finanziario per consentire tempestivamente alle organizzazioni umanitarie già attive sul posto di fornire gli aiuti necessari”.
Arrivano notizie drammatiche anche dalle comunità e dalle famiglie presenti nei territori colpiti dal terremoto. Il Movimento dei Focolari, che opera in Siria già da anni con aiuti umanitari e progetti, si è attivato con una apposita raccolta di fondi mondiale.
Resta però la difficoltà di far arrivare aiuti alla Siria per le misure introdotte con l’embargo finanziario. Il Movimento Politico per l’Unità sta attivando tutti i canali di contatto possibili anche con altri Movimenti ed Associazioni e con chi ha potere decisionale e di persuasione politica, “ma si faccia in fretta, per salvare più persone possibili”.
