Lukashenko: All of us are being dragged into WWIII through Ukraine conflict

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) Destructive forces are trying to rewrite history, challenge the common contribution of Belarus and Russia to the Great Victory, and are dragging everyone into the third world war through the conflict in Ukraine, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov on 20 April, BelTA has learned. The head of state noted that he was sincerely glad to welcome the St. Petersburg delegation again and was happy to receive them as good and close neighbors: “You know my special feelings for this hard working hero city. I often compare Leningrad with Belarus. Indeed, no other places suffered from the war as much as Belarus and Leningrad did. We in Belarus have a very warm regard for people from Leningrad Oblast who came here after the war and made a great contribution to rebuilding Belarus, especially restoring its science and education system.” Taking the opportunity, the president thanked the delegation of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast for coming to Belarus in March to attend the opening of the museum in the run up to the 80th anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy. The president highlighted the importance of common efforts to preserve the historical truth. “We see that today the Nazis, fascists and other scum, destructive forces are trying to rewrite history, challenge our common contribution to the Great Victory and justify their criminal actions committed back then and today. Through the conflict in Ukraine, they are dragging us all into the third world war. They failed then and I am sure that they will fail now,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “We have a lot of work to do to strengthen the union of Belarus and Russia, which today is a stronghold of freedom and truth in the CIS and beyond. Of course, Russian regions are making a huge contribution to making our alliance stronger. I often say: had we not built close ties with the regions of Russia back in the day, we would not have had this level of relations today,” the head of state added.
