Russian ambassador points to threats coming to overseas missions
PARIS, November 11. /TASS/. Russian diplomatic missions in France continue to receive threats while the French authorities are showing next to no reaction to attacks on Russian nationals, Russian Ambassador to France told TASS on Friday. "There are threats from time to time, so we have to be on alert," he said, urging at the same time "not to get ahead of ourselves." Commenting on reports about attacks on Russian nationals, he noted that the local authorities register them "but we see no further steps." As an example he cited an attack on a group of Russians in Trouville in northern France in October. "The police refused to detain the attacker because his blow was not strong enough to cause nose-bleeding. Well, would they have detained him should the Russian national be bleeding? I don’t think they would have," he said. On October 27, the Russian embassy sent a message to the French foreign ministry following an attack on Russians by Ukrainian nationals in Trouville. The embassy demanded the French authorities "punish those responsible and prevent situations when Russian nationals are exposed to danger in France." According to Russian diplomats, a group of Ukrainian nationals attacked Russians in a fish market in Trouville and later tried to take them on at a hotel where they lived. The Russian embassy maintains a hotline for compatriots to report any cases of discrimination.
