Interview with Massimo Cacciari: Stop shooting, now everyone around the table for peace

Professor Cacciari, you are among the signatories of an appeal for peace also signed by right-wing intellectuals such as Pierangelo Buttafuoco and Marcello Veneziani. An initiative that has turned many lips on the left. No one has the intention of removing political differences and aggression and therefore on the violation of one of the few principles of international law that in one formula or another everyone recognizes. Let's not make a fuss about how many times and by whom these principles have been violated, because it is clear that kind of seeing the faults of one or the other since the dawn of time, we never stop. Let's forget it, for the sake of our country. Nowadays there is this aggression. So Russia must recognize the it was a colossal strategic mistake because it is clear that Russia thought it could destabilize the Ukrainian government with a sort of blitzkrieg and thus secure Donbass, Crimea, the outlets to the Black Sea, and this is rio, of the position of NATO and so on.. There is Russia which, due to its fault, must recognize the crime it has committed on the level of international law, saying it is immediately ready for a unilateral ceasefire, and on the other who else should finally play an active part, that is to guarantee that at the same time as this Russian act serious negotiations are opened on the things really under discussion. And which are not debatable because they are facts; That is to say ? The war onbass, the civil war in all the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine which were attacked by the Ukrainian army. We are talking about acts of open hostility. What would happen in South Tyrol if Italy declared a ban on the German language tomorrow to: acts of open hostility towards the Russian-speaking minority. It is not a question of undergoing or endorsing the referendum. Everyone knows very well that a referendum even with all the superintendencies in the world, UN or whoever else, would give a certain result in Donbass as in Crimea However, this is obvious, given that these are regions with an overwhelming Russian-speaking majority. Ignoring the referendums does not mean ignoring the vulnerability mentioned above. Civil war is not avoided with acts of manifest hostility towards a minority. We try to find I also want a state structure that redefines the very idea of nation, of government and, precisely, of State. And here Europe comes into play. Read also !Kiev cannot win if the aim is to recover the Ukraine, there are glimmers of peace but bombs are still raining War in Ukraine, there are glimmers of peace but bombs are still raining Peace negotiations: Putin opens talks to Biden but Zelensky blocks everything What Europe should do ? It should demonstrate a commitment to address it seriously that there is no threat to Russia. And arrive at real treaties, not like the gentlemen's agreements which didn't count for a damn, to put it mildly, after the fall of the Berlin Wall. We need to of peace between the United States, Western powers and Russia, resolving those two three issues that really vitally interest Russia, such as the regions of Donbass, Crimea, which are easily resolvable and not necessarily with annexation to Russia but with guaranteed treaties the United States and Europe, which establish that those regions have and enjoy a special status, exactly as in other countries of the world regions that are ethnically autonomous enjoy special statutes. Fair, clear, limpid, natural. If there is anyway?, !let's go to war anyway?, or the idiots who rave that Russia's attack on Ukraine prefigured a landing of the Cossacks at the fountains of St. Peter, if there are any idiots, pass me the their soul. What is the objective of the appeal that ? signed The document is part of a discussion of common sense and has an objective: to achieve, I won't say peace, which is a big word, but at least hostility and to stop shooting from tomorrow and, at the same time, must commit to the opening of immediate peace negotiations between all interested parties on the basis of some principles which are referred to in that short document. And they are factual principles: those recognized in the treaty
