A new poll published Friday by Channel 12 News finds that, following Operation Shield and Arrow in the Gaza Strip, Israelis once again see Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the most suitable person to serve as Prime Minister.
After several weeks in which National Unity Party chairman Benny Gantz led in the polls, Netanyahu's popularity is increasing: 39% of respondents answered that the current Prime Minister is the most suitable for the job, compared to 36% who support Gantz.
When Netanyahu is opposed by opposition leader Yair Lapid, the gap is even wider: 42% think that Netanyahu is the most suitable for the job, and only 27% think that Lapid is most suitable.
Amid the discussions on the controversial Draft Law, respondents were asked about an exemption for haredim from being drafted to the IDF. Out of all the respondents a majority of 65% believe that the haredim should enlist in the IDF, compared to only 22% who think that the haredim should be permitted to focus on Torah study.
Among voters of the Netanyahu bloc, the gap narrowed, and the percentages are almost the same: 42% believe that haredim should be permitted to focus on Torah study and not serve in the IDF, and 45% believe that the haredim should serve like everyone else.
